It’s been a while since we have heard any news about Evolution Studios’ upcoming PS4-exclusive racing game Driveclub, which was originally intended to be a worldwide launch title for the new system back in November 2013.

The game was delayed prior to launch, with Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida explaining “The extra time we’re giving the team means the visuals and overall experience are only going to get better. We can assure you that it will be worth the wait.”

If this new video—originally posted on DualShockers—is anything to go by, it is indeed looking like it will be worth the wait. The footage is a leaked internal design video featuring Driveclub branding guidelines and a detailed explanation of the visual techniques used to give a sense of realism to the game, such as point-of-view Go-Pro style camera angles, various filters like film grain and desaturation, as well imperfect framing to make the game feel more cinematic and visceral.

It’s quite interesting to get an insight into what goes into making a game like Driveclub look the way it does, as opposed to just seeing the end result of a polished trailer or finished game. Of course a good looking game is all well and good, but we will have to wait until later in the year to discover if gameplay has also lived up to expectations.

When it is released, Driveclub will be available in two versions, a full retail copy, and a cut-down version which will be free to download and play for PlayStation Plus subscribers. Sony has told IGN: “The team at Evolution Studios are working hard to bring Driveclub, a truly next gen driving experience to PS4 and we will announce the release date shortly. We’re really excited about how Driveclub is progressing and thank you for the patience.”
