C’mon Nintendo, this is getting ridiculous now. Our bank balance has barely recovered from the first two waves of Amiibo figures—we’ve bought over 10 already, and would have grabbed even more if we could find them in stores! So you can understand why we are a little worried by today’s Nintendo Direct announcement that even more of the cute character figurines are on their way.
In addition to the previously announced upcoming third wave figures (see bottom of page) slated for February, Nintendo have today announced a Super Mario Bros. themed wave to be released on March 20th which will include Mario, Peach, Toad, Luigi, Yoshi and Bowser (pictured above). All of these characters—aside from Toad—have already featured in the first three waves, but here they will be sporting new poses. The thought of collecting every character in Nintendo’s diverse roster was daunting enough, so the announcement of repeat characters in new poses is positively terrifying. Well played Nintendo, well played.
But the onslaught of new figures doesn’t stop there. Nintendo have also revealed yet another wave of Super Smash Bros. themed characters to include Robin, Lucina, Pac-Man, Ness, Charizard and Wario which you can see below. We’re just throwing it out there, that adorable Ness figure is sure to sell out faster than you can say “I’m a grown man spending my paycheck on silly toys”. The ‘fifth wave’ Amiibos are set to land in stores sometime in the second quarter of 2015.
Nintendo also revealed that certain Amiibos will be compatible with upcoming Wii U party game Mario Party 10 to unlock game boards and player pieces. Compatible Amiibos include Mario, Luigi, Toad, Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Rosalina and Wario. Unfortunately using these Amiibos in Mario Party 10 will erase any Super Smash Bros. data saved on them which is a little disappointing. Now if you’ll excuse us we have to start saving!
