Some of the most popular video game phenomenons in recent decades—take Guitar Hero for example—had an ability to instantly capture our hearts with exciting new ideas and addictive gameplay. Unfortunately however, such successes are often followed by a flood of sequels and quick cash-grabs that cause players to walk away from the series with nothing more than some fond memories and a cupboard full of dusty, plastic instruments.
One such series is Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. From humble beginnings on the PS1 it soared high like, well Tony Hawk, only to fall flat on its face a few sequels later. Now that the dust has well and truly settled though, I find myself reminiscing about these seemingly forgotten franchises and wondering if they will ever make a triumphant return.
Well if you’ve ever hoped for a new Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater game on modern consoles then we have some great news for you. None other than the legendary Tony Hawk himself has recently confirmed that a brand new Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater title is planned for release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One sometime this year.
Speaking to Lifehacker’s Chris Jager, Hawk explains “we’re working on it, it’ll be coming out later this year on PS4 and Xbox One”. “It’s very much in the THPS style of gaming with the same controls.”
After some unsuccessful deviations away from the tried and true formula, it’s great to hear that Activision might be returning to the style of the original game that got us so hooked in the first place. We can only hold our breath and hope that they get it right. For more great news and information on the upcoming Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater game, stay tuned to LootChaser.
